Post-Construction Cleaning Checklist for GTA Property Managers

Phase 1: Heavy Debris Removal

Before detailed cleaning begins, post-construction cleaning starts with removing large debris: drywall scraps, lumber offcuts, packaging, and empty product containers. This clears the way for detailed cleaning. All debris is bagged and removed from the site, leaving a clean slate for the more detailed phases that follow.

This phase also includes sweeping up construction dust and larger particles from floors. A clean start ensures that subsequent phases are more effective and that fine dust isn't simply pushed around during wet cleaning.

Phase 2: Dust Control and Vacuuming

Construction generates fine dust on every surface. Phase 2 involves HEPA vacuuming of ceilings, walls, light fixtures, window frames, and ledges. GTA Scrub uses commercial HEPA systems capturing 99.97% of particles. This phase is critical for indoor air quality and ensuring surfaces are properly prepared for wet cleaning.

Special attention is given to HVAC vents and returns, which trap large amounts of construction dust. All vents are vacuumed and wiped clean to prevent dust from circulating through the building's ventilation system once it's operational.

Phase 3: Window and Glass Cleaning

New construction leaves windows covered in construction film, paint splatter, and sticker residue. Phase 3 involves cleaning all glass surfaces with squeegees and professional-grade cleaner. Clean windows are the most visible sign of a thorough post-construction clean.

Window frames, tracks, and sills are also cleaned during this phase. Construction debris often accumulates in window tracks and must be removed to allow proper window operation. Glass partitions, shower enclosures, and mirrors are also included.

Phase 4: Kitchen and Washroom Deep Clean

Phase 4 focuses on detailed cleaning of plumbing fixtures, countertops, cabinets, and hardware. This includes removing adhesive residue, polishing fixtures, deep cleaning toilets and sinks, and sanitizing all washroom surfaces. Kitchens receive special attention to ensure countertops, sinks, and cabinets are free of construction dust and residue.

All protective coverings on appliances and fixtures are removed. Surfaces are cleaned and polished to a showroom finish. Cabinet interiors are vacuumed and wiped to remove sawdust and construction debris.

Phase 5: Floor Care and Final Polish

The final phase addresses floors and finishes. Hard floors need thorough mopping, carpets require final HEPA vacuuming, and some projects need stripping and waxing. GTA Scrub's CleanCheck system documents every phase with photo verification, providing proof that your property is truly move-in ready.

For projects that include floor restoration, this phase may involve multiple steps including stripping, sealing, and polishing. The goal is to leave every floor surface clean, protected, and looking its best for occupancy.
